As part of this year's Sustainable Living Festival (SLF), the tour highlights the sustainability initiatives implemented to ensuring that the market’s operating activities occur with minimum environmental impact.
The tour will include information on the Solar Panel Project with 1,328 solar panels covering the Market Sheds, the Water Harvesting Project that provides an alternative water source for flushing the Market’s heavily patronised Queen Street Public Toilets, information on the work being carried out to continually improve the waste management at the Market and increase recycling, information on the work with the Market Traders to phase out plastic bags from their businesses. Taking into account all this work occurs with the limitations of a heritage listed site. Finishing with a tour of the organic produce areas of the Market, highlighting the benefits of organic produce on health and the environment.
Tour includes a section on the benefits of organic produce on health and environment and the wide choice readily available in the heart of Melbourne, at the Queen Vic Market.
The tour concludes with an organic morning tea.
Cost: $20 to cover organic breakfast cost.
