Heinz was an inaugural member of the 2006 Board. Born in Germany, he has spent almost his entire adult life in Melbourne. He has been a resident of Camberwell since the mid 1990s and is married with one daughter. While originally trained as a fitter/welder, Heinz has spent the last 20 years in education, first as a teacher and translator and after receiving his PhD in Linguistics, has been working as a senior lecturer at Monash University since 1991. More recently he has been involved at senior faculty and university level as Associate Dean in planning, administration and governance.
Catherine has been an independent councillor of Maribyrnong City Council for 14 years. During this time, she has been a strong and active member of both MWMG and the former Western Region Waste Management Group (which was amalgamated in October 2006 to become part of the MWMG). As part of her involvement, Catherine was Chair of the Forum for two years ending February 2009. Catherine is a mother of four and a Doctor of Chinese Medicine.
Anne Dalton is a legal and procurement consultant and is an appointed provider on the Victorian Government Whole of Government Probity Practitioners Panel. Anne advises public sector entities on all issues relating to procurement, including tendering, contract negotiation and contract management. Anne has been a partner in two major Australian law firms and prior to that was a senior lawyer at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. In 2010, Anne was the Chancellor of RMIT University, having been a Governor in Council appointee since 2003. In 2011, Anne concluded her seven year term on the Victorian Government Purchasing Board.
Dick was an inaugural member of the 2006 Board and Chair from October 2006 to February 2009. He was a co-founder and the first coordinator of the Consumer Credit Legal Service, a free legal service for low-income consumers. He served on a number of government law reform committees dealing with consumer and debt recovery issues. As a councillor, Dick represented the City of Port Phillip until November 2008. Dick has also held the position of Chairperson for both the National Packaging Covenant Council and the Municipal Association of Victoria. Dick continues to work for eco-friendly and efficient waste management, sensible implementation of Melbourne 2030 and alternative waste technology.
Nick is Managing Director of Equilibrium OMG, a sustainability strategy and management company. He is a senior corporate affairs and sustainability professional, previously holding the position of Group General Manager Environment at Visy. For the last 10 years, Nick has worked to successfully implement and manage internal and external sustainability programs.
Francesca has been a member of the MWMG Board since its inception in 2006. She was also a Board Member and Chairperson of the Audit Committee of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Victoria from July 2003 until its merger with EcoRecycle and the formation of Sustainability Victoria.
Francesca is the General Counsel and Company Secretary of OZ Minerals Limited and is a member of the Takeovers Panel. Prior to joining OZ Minerals, she was General Counsel and Company Secretary of Zinifex Limited, Group Counsel at BHP Billiton and has also held a number of senior positions at Rio Tinto Limited including Group Counsel and General Manager Internal Audit & Risk Review and was Vice President of Structured Finance at Citibank Limited.
John has been a Director of the Qantas Superannuation Plan since 2005 and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, he is also a Board member of the Municipal Association Victoria.
John has a passionate interest in one of the few services that is used by all residents – waste management. He has overseen the development and continuing implementation of Moonee Valley’s Waste Management Strategy, which has increased the council’s diversion rate to nearly 45 per cent. This has included award winning initiatives like the MobileMuster and the Renew program, which uses kerbside recycling bins to collect used clothing and household items for charities. John was also a strong proponent of the shift to fortnightly green waste pickups at the City of Moonee Valley.
Les was an inaugural member of the 2006 Board. He has lived in the Maroondah area for over 40 years. He served as a Councillor with the former Croydon Council for over nine years, four of which he served as Mayor. He was elected to Maroondah City Council in 1997 as the Council’s first Mayor, going onto serve a total of three terms as Mayor.
Les represented the Council on LeastWaste (Eastern Regional Waste Management Group) and served as Vice Chairman. He represents the Council on the Audit Advisory Committee, Maroondah Tourism & Heritage Advisory Board, and the Ringwood Town Centre Working Group and was appointed by the Planning Minister onto the Ringwood Transit City Advisory Board. Les is Publicity Officer for the Croydon Branch of the Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
